Lenny Yajima Andrew Selected To Lead The Japanese Cultural Center Of HawaiÔi (JCCH)

LENNY YAJIMA ANDREW SELECTED TO LEAD
THE JAPANESE CULTURAL CENTER OF HAWAI'I (JCCH)

HONOLULU--Lenny Yajima Andrew has been appointed president and executive director of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH). Andrew will start the position on March 27.

"Lenny Andrew's enthusiastic vision and experience working with volunteer organizations and knowledge of Japanese culture will take the JCCH into the next phase of growth," said Dean Hirata, chairman of the JCCH board of directors. "The board unanimously selected her to ensure a continued level of programs, events and presence in our community."

Andrew takes the place of Judge Riki May Amano (Ret.), who announced her retirement in November.

"With the JCCH in a very secure position, financially and internally, the organization is prepared and fully equipped for this smooth transition of new leadership," Amano said. "Lenny brings a conscientious plan of action that will propel the JCCH forward. The staff and volunteers are looking forward to working with her."

Working in the pharmaceutical industry in Honolulu for the past 17 years, Andrew was most recently an executive neurology specialist with Merck U.S. Human Health. Andrew graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in economics and Japanese studies.
"I am very excited and honored to be selected as the president and executive director at such a robust stage in the JCCH's development," said Andrew. "As president/executive director, my goals include broadening the scope of our partnerships with other community organizations, increasing membership and programming on the neighbor islands and creating a self-sustaining center."

Andrew served as the general chairperson for the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce's 40th Cherry Blossom Festival, and has volunteered for other local groups and organizations including the Hawai'i State Commission on the Status of Women, Self-Help Housing Corporation of Hawaii and the Japanese Women's Society of Honolulu. She is currently the fund-raising chair at Hanahau'oli School.

The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH), a non-profit organization, strives to share the history, heritage and culture of the evolving Japanese American experience in Hawai'i. Located in Moø'ili'ili, the JCCH features a Community and Historical Gallery, Resource Center, Kenshikan martial arts doøjoø, Seikoøan Japanese teahouse and Gift Shop.
