Chaminade Professor To Serve On NCAA Minority Opportunity And Interests Committee FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Kapono Ryan (808) 735-4797 or cell (808) 429-2972 MINORITY OPPORTUNITY AND INTERESTS COMMITTEE HONOLULU--July 26, 2007--Wayne Tanna, professor of accounting at Chaminade University, has been appointed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)to serve on its Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. His 4-year term begins September 2007. "This appointment relates to my personal and academic interests in furthering diversity and inclusion," said Tanna. Formed in January 1991, the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee (MOIC) reviews issues related to the interests of ethnic minorities and women. These issues focus on the education and welfare of minority student-athletes, as well as the enhancement of opportunities for ethnic minorities and women in coaching, athletics administration, officiating and the NCAA governance structure. Tanna has previously served as NCAA compliance officer for Chaminade University for more than 12 years, and he and his Chaminade University students have spent countless hours in service-learning tax clinic projects, helping the working poor with tax refunds. Tanna was also recently elected to serve on the Hawaii State Advisory Panel for the U.S. Civil Rights Commission and continues to serve on the IRS Tax Advocacy Panel, which helps to identify taxpayers' issues, making suggestions for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction.
