Three new members elected to 2007-2008 JCCH board of directors

New slate of board of governors also elected for new fiscal year


HONOLULU--Three new members have been elected to the board of directors of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) for 2007-2008. Susan Eichor, Gordon Kagawa and Curt Otaguro joined the JCCH as at-large members of the board of directors on July 31, 2007.

The JCCH board of directors, which manages the property and business of the JCCH, also elected a new slate of board of governors, an advisory group that oversees and organizes various JCCH programs and activities on July 31.


Chairman of the board of directors, Eric K. Martinson said, "We welcome these new additions to the JCCH family. The JCCH is extremely privileged to have such outstanding members of the community volunteer their time, immense knowledge and experience to our organization."


New board of director member Susan Eichor is president and chief operating officer of aio Group, a diversified Hawai'i company that holds brands such as ESPN 1420 AM, Honolulu Magazine and Hawaii Business Magazine. Eichor formerly was part of the Verizon management team and also consults with telecommunications companies in the Pacific. Eichor fills the position being vacated by Sanford Murata and will serve through June 30, 2008.


Gordon Kagawa is president and chief executive officer of Occidental Underwriters of Hawaii, an insurance company that has been a corporate sponsor and strong supporter of the JCCH. Kagawa is active in community and business organizations including the Boy Scouts. Kagawa fills the position being vacated by Brian Nishida and will serve through June 30, 2010.


Curt Otaguro is senior vice president of First Hawaiian Bank and currently manager in charge of the bank's card services division. Otaguro is active in community organizations including Special Olympics Hawaii. Otaguro fills the position being vacated by Ray Ono and will serve through June 30, 2010.

In addition to Eichor, Kagawa and Otaguro, the 2007-2008 JCCH board of directors consists of Chairman Martinson and members Donn Ariyoshi, Dean K. Hirata, Wayne Kamitaki, Lee Moriwaki, Wayne Muraoka, Miki Okumura, Susan Yamada Scott, Sherman Shiraishi, Yuki Lei Sugimura, Alan Tomonari and Ronald Ushijima.

This year's board of governors, led by Chairman Tyler Tokioka, consists of members Stacey Arashiro, David Asanuma, Stanley Chu, Jonelle Fujita, Ben Fukumoto, Stephanie Furuta, Denise Hayashi, Eric Higashihara, Charlyn Honda Masini, Rich Hosoda, Dennis Ihara, Barbara Ishida, Chenise Kanemoto, Susan Kitsu, Jane Komeiji, Lawrence Kumabe, Akemi Kurokawa, Yvonne Lau, Kathy Matayoshi, Cami Mikami, Mike Murakoshi, Garett Muranaka, Deborah Nakagawa, Lori Okazaki, Tracey Okubo, Ryan Okunaga, Gwen Ouye, Lisa Shozuya, Rattana Soubandith, Allene Suemori, Brian Suzuki, Jon Takushi, Dr. George Tanabe, Robyn Titcomb, Shaun Ushijima, Glenn Wakai, Mark Yamada, Chris Yano and Betsy Young. The board is responsible for organizing some of the JCCH's larger annual events, such as the New Year's 'Ohana Festival and the Celebration of Leadership and Achievement Dinner.
