She could be feisty, but she was always friendly. She fought for health and education issues, but always helped out with pro-business and Republican Caucus issues. Though she was elected from the area between Kahala and Hawaii Kai for three terms and served on the Kalani-Kuliouou Neighborhood Board No. 2 for at least 15 years (11 years as Chair), her heart was in Aina Haina Valley where she lived for decades. A devoted community leader, she was president of the Aina Haina Community Association more than once. Her greatest pride, however, was her family. She missed her late husband, but took great comfort in her 5 children and many grandchildren. Her friends, neighbors, district acquaintances, Republican admirers, fellow legislators, church community, sorority sisters, and Neighborhood Board colleagues will all miss Bertha. -30- Back | Current News | FYI |
