Chaminade University Names William Villa
As Its New Athletics Director

Honolulu, HI -- June 27, 2008 -- William "Bill" Villa has been selected as Chaminade University's new full-time athletics director, school officials announced today.

"Mr. Villa has a proven track record as a dedicated athletics administrator with a history of developing visionary goals and implementing and achieving them in coordination with executive management for more than 15 years," said Chaminade President Sue Wesselkamper. "His extensive experience with the Hawaii's athletics community will make him a great asset. We are excited to have him on board."

Villa comes to Chaminade from Mid-Pacific Institute, where he now serves as its interscholastic athletics director of a program with more than 850 participants and 80 teams playing in 21 different sports. He was instrumental in establishing Mid-Pacific's athletics booster club in 2004.

"The selection committee was impressed with Villa's management skills in building Mid-Pacific's program, as well as with his coaching expertise. Chaminade looks forward to having him spur on Chaminade's Silversword booster club, Hui 'hinahina, and leading other fundraising efforts," said Wesselkamper. "Hui 'hinahina surpassed its initial goals, raising more than $150,000 to support athletics after its official launch last summer. The university hopes with Villa's help to continue that exciting trend upward."

A graduate and former coach of Kamehameha Schools, Villa has a bachelor's degree in business management and in 2002 earned his Certified Athletic Administrator credential from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He has also previously coached basketball, baseball and soccer and has been president of the Board of Interscholastic League of Honolulu Athletic Directors (BADILH) since 2005.

Villa resides in Kailua with his wife, Ranae. They have three sons, Kahi, Kawika and Kaipo and 4 grandchildren.
