  • Mahalo To Those Who Help With The 12th Avenue Rock Garden Project

Did you know the word Kaimuki means: Place of the Ti Leaf Ovens? The meaning of this Historic little Town sits on a nice sized Pohaku (stone) on 12th Avenue.
Its part of a very tiny Rock Garden dedicated in 1972 by some of Kaimuki's finest Community Organizations and the City & County of Honolulu. Don't blink you'll miss it!

Silently this special little spot has provided a respite from walking, working or whatever you are doing in Kaimuki, for over 30-years. Cool stone benches and a unique variety of black, white and brown boulders,(which represent the Hawaiian Islands)makes this place not only hidden Treasure, but,a natural Gathering Place.

For the past 3-years I was a Volunteer Gardener / Litter-Picker- Upper for this special place. I was born and raised in Kaimuki in its 1950's hey-day!

Happy childhood memories of Kaimuki's Christmas Parade and street decorations, the Old Kaimuki Theater where we watched Disney Movie sand ate sweet colored popcorn, as well as parents who believed in Volunteerism, motivated me to give back to my hometown.

For personal reasons I'm am no longer able to care for the Garden. It is a very special place. I hope people take a moment to Kokua this area of peace and tranquility. Please, Kokuaand take a minute to toss your trash in the waste can or ashtray provided. Even these tiny acts can make a big difference for all.

Trash Can & Maintenance Service has been generously provided by a couple of the KBPA Member Businesses for the past 3-years. Last month I transitioned the Garden back to a purely rock garden. Leaving white rocks, mainly round the Dedication Stone in hopes that when you see it you'll stop by and read its story of Ka-Imu-Ki.

Thank-you to the Individuals and Organizations below, who quietly and selflessly supported my efforts to keep the Garden enjoyable for every one the past 3-years.
Thank-you for your donations, services, advice, water and Kokua.

Sincerely with Aloha
~ Rochelle Wolfe
