CHAMINADE UNIVERSITY NAMES NEW NURSING HEAD

-- MOMENTUM FOR FALL 2010 NURSING PROGRAM GROWS--


Chaminade University has selected Dr. Stephanie Genz as its new Associate Dean for Nursing. She begins her position immediately.

Dr. Genz previously served as Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Nursing at Viterbo University, a Catholic, Franciscan university sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Dr. Genz earned her masters degree in public health nursing and her doctorate in higher education policy and administration from the University of Minnesota. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

"Dr. Genz is an excellent nurse, a leader, a compassionate and exacting educator, and a wonderful asset to our team here at Chaminade," said Dr. Helen Turner, Chaminade University's Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. "Her research interests are in the areas of cultural competence and effect on nursing care delivery, and on the value of immersion experiences in nursing curricula."

Responding to the critical shortage of nurses in Hawaii, the Pacific region and nationally, Chaminade plans to open its School of Nursing in fall 2010, pending approval by the Hawaii State Board of Nursing. The mission of the Chaminade Center for Nurse Education will be to provide baccalaureate degrees in nursing while developing skilled and caring individuals, whose professional lives are devoted to promoting health, decreasing health-related disparities in our community and enhancing quality of life for their patients. A dynamic and innovative nursing curriculum in the context of a Catholic Marianist institution and state-of-the-art facilities will encourage the development of outstanding clinical competence and a humble commitment to the nursing vocation.
