Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation Awards
$70,000 Grant to Chaminade University


HONOLULU July 8, 2009 The Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation awarded Chaminade University a $70,000 grant to support the Castle Colleagues Program for pre-school directors management training.

"We are extremely grateful to the Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation for their ongoing generosity," said Dr. David Grossman, interim dean of education at Chaminade. "The Castle Colleagues Program has become an influential leader in the field of early childhood education in Hawai`i, and with the support and encouragement of the Foundation, we will continue to advance the initiatives of this vital program."

The Castle Colleagues Program at Chaminade provides management training to early childhood education directors from throughout Hawai`i. The program was developed to meet the reality of management issues faced by directors of early childhood sites and is designed to offer practical, hands-on management skills, tools, and resources through a series of intensive retreats structured as interactive survey courses. It is the only community-based management training program for early childhood site directors in Hawai`i.

The Samuel N. & Mary Castle Foundation and its component fund, the Henry and Dorothy Castle Memorial Fund, are committed to providing resources to improve the life of Hawai`i's children and families by improving the quality and quantity of early education, K-12, independent schools, and arts and cultural institutions. The Foundation works to fund a multiple number of projects to ensure greater access of Hawai`i's children to high quality early education.

Educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University is a Catholic/ Marianist university offering programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses.
