HONOLULU December 11, 2009, 2009 Nearly 200 students will receive their degrees at Chaminade University's Fall Commencement Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., in the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. Free and open to the public, the event will feature Corbett Kalama, executive vice president with First Hawaiian Bank and regional manager of the O'ahu Region Office, as its keynote speaker. Kalama manages First Hawaiian's more than thirty branches on the island of O'ahu. He is also the personal banking and small business banking segment manager for First Hawaiian and is a member of the bank's senior management committee, which makes all of the bank's major decisions. Besides his many capacities with First Hawaiian, he is also a Trustee for Kamehameha Schools and serves on its board as vice chairman. A graduate of Kailua High School, Western Oregon College (economics) and the Pacific Coast Banking School, where he has served as a faculty member as well, Kalama was a former teacher at Kailua High School and with the Honolulu Community Action Program. He has served as a trustee of the University of Hawai`i Foundation and for the Queen Lili`uokalani Children's Center, as well as a member of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Revolving Fund Program. Coming from a rich tradition of Hawaiian culture, Kalama is actively involved in teaching leadership courses based on Hawaiian values, coaching and competing in Hawaiian Canoe Racing.
