American Savings Bank Awards
$25,000 Grant to Hogan Entrepreneurs Program

HONOLULU -- January 6, 2010 -- American Savings Bank awarded Chaminade University a $25,000 grant to support the 2010 Hogan Entrepreneurs/American Savings Bank Non-Profit Business Plan Competition.

"American Savings Bank has made education a top priority, and we applaud Chaminade's commitment to improve the lives of so many here in our islands," said Anna Marie Springer, Senior Vice President and Community Liaison for American Savings Bank. "For this reason, we are very pleased to continue our relationship with the University and the Hogan Entrepreneurs through sponsorship of the Non-Profit Business Plan Competition."

Open to non-profit organizations planning to start new ventures that will benefit society, the Hogan Entrepreneurs/American Savings Bank Non-Profit Business Plan Competition aims to encourage excellence in non-profit planning and help make new and innovative social enterprises a reality. The Competition is organized and administered each fall by the Hogan Entrepreneurs Program of Chaminade with the assistance of 3Point Consulting. Previous prizes have included up to $15,000 for first place. Details for the upcoming 2010 competition will be announced early next year.

"We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support by American Savings Bank," said Dr. John Webster, Director of the Hogan Entrepreneurs Program. "This competition not only seeks to reward socially responsible entrepreneurship, but also to stimulate public interest in the non-profit sector."

The Hogan Entrepreneurs Program at Chaminade prepares students for entrepreneurial careers in business, government, and non-profit organizations. Educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University is a Catholic/ Marianist university offering programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. Chaminade is also a Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander serving institution with its main campus located at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, and 10 satellite locations around Oahu.
