THREE AGREEMENTS CLEAR PATH FOR STUDENTS PURSING MEDICAL DEGREES
--Direct access to Boston University School of Medicine and to two osteopathic medicine universities open to Chaminade students--

HONOLULU-- June 21, 2010 -- Chaminade University has entered into agreements with three major medical programs, clearing the path for its students to fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors and provides special access to Chaminade students in achieving their goals to pursue postgraduate degrees in healthcare:

Chaminade has signed an agreement with Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), which gives better access for qualified underrepresented minority students to pursue dreams of becoming medical doctors. Chaminade students can now participate in the Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP), a partnership between BUSM and 13 minority serving universities that emphasize early admissions and curriculum coordination.

A. T. Still University (ATSU) and Chaminade University have entered into two articulation agreements that will open new doors for qualified Chaminade students who want to become doctors of osteopathic medicine. Qualified students can now take advantage of the Stills Scholars Pre-Osteopathic Early Acceptance Program, designed to provide early admission to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Qualified students can also apply as candidates to ATSU Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/ Chaminade University Early Admission Program. Students who successfully complete program requirements at Chaminade can then take advantage of reserved seats at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Western University of Health Sciences is partnering with Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, to provide a pipeline for its undergraduate students to enter Western U's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree program. The linkage agreement is designed to admit qualified Chaminade applicants to Western University's College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) in Pomona, Calif., and a Lebanon, Ore. campus that is scheduled to open in 2011.

Celebrating more than 50 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. The main campus is located in Kaimuki at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, with 10 satellite locations around Oahu military bases and Catholic parishes and schools. AGREEMENT WITH MAJOR MEDICAL SCHOOL
PROVIDES ACCESS FOR CHAMINADE STUDENTS

HONOLULU--June 21, 2010--Chaminade University has signed an agreement with Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), which gives better access for qualified underrepresented minority students to pursue dreams of becoming medical doctors. Chaminade students can now participate in the Early Medical School Selection Program (EMSSP), a partnership between BUSM and 13 minority serving universities that emphasize early admissions and curriculum coordination.

"This is extremely exciting for us because the partnership increases access for our qualified students, who wish to become medical doctors," said Bro. Bernard Ploeger, SM, president of Chaminade University. "It also is a proven venue by which our students can successfully complete their goals."

Chaminade students accepted into the program attend Boston University Summer School between their sophomore and junior years and their junior and senior years, in college, earning credit toward their bachelors' degree. Students are assigned to a physician mentor, whom they shadow during their time in Boston. During their senior undergraduate year, the students attend Boston University and are enrolled in both undergraduate and medical school courses for dual credit. The program provides an early and more gradual transition into medical school and has been hailed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) as an example of the kind of efforts that medical schools can make to increase minority enrollment and graduation.

WesternU Partners with Chaminade University

POMONA, Calif. and HONOLULU, Hawaii - June 21, 2010 - Western University of Health Sciences is partnering with Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, to provide a pipeline for its undergraduate students to enter WesternU's Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree program. The linkage agreement is designed to admit qualified Chaminade applicants to Western University's College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) in Pomona, Calif., and a Lebanon, Ore. campus that is scheduled to open in 2011.

"This agreement opens a new door for qualified Chaminade students who wish to pursue their postgraduate degrees in health care fields," said Bro. Bernard Ploeger, SM, president of Chaminade University. "Increasing opportunities for our students to participate in will benefit the larger Hawaii community through the work of highly trained professionals graduating from Chaminade in pre-medical studies."

The Western University-Chaminade University Linkage Agreement for the DO degree is composed of three components: admission to candidacy; demonstration of satisfactory progress; and application for admission to COMP.

"Since Chaminade University delivers a strong liberal arts education and a strong foundation in the sciences, the linkage between WU/COMP and

Chaminade U will allow us to attract culturally sensitive students having a strong background in the sciences," said Gerald Thrush, PhD, Professor and Assistant Chair of COMP's Department of Basic Medical Sciences. "In addition, this linkage will give us the opportunity to recruit native Pacific Islanders."

This is WesternU's first linkage agreement with a Hawaiian university. COMP has linkage agreements with several local institutions, including Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State San Bernardino, Pitzer College, Scripps College, Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Fullerton.

"Pairing with undergraduate institutions allows us to develop a relationship with faculty and students from these institutions," Thrush said. "In so doing, we get to know prospective students better, and the students get to know us as well. The end result is that by the time students matriculate at WesternU, they are committed to WesternU and our osteopathic medical education."
