Happy New Year!

Dazzling New Website
Visit our website friendsofqueentheater.org for a whole new look and a chance to see the digital renderings of a future Queen Theater that were created for us by Urban Advantage. It is a realistic idea of what the exterior transformation could look like and how it could effect ‘top of the hill' Kaimuki.

The new website design and execution was created by Mahlon Moore who we all know from his melodic radio work and TV voiceovers . Mahlon is our newest board member and one of our most productive volunteers.

A new direction
Last fall we met with the Urban Land Institute, arranged by Kirsten Faulkner of Historic Hawaii, to see how they might help the project. Although they were excited as well as supportive of the Queen's renovation they helped us to see that we had to have control of the property to go forward successfully with any plans.

We have contacted Mr.Yu requesting a purchase price or a long-term lease proposal that he would accept.

We are arranging meetings with State Senator Les Ihara, State Representative Mark Hashem, and City Councilman Stanley Chang, to discuss their ideas for supporting this community economic improvement.

We are also moving ahead with the application for naming the Queen Theater to the Hawai‘i Register of Historic Places.

About Friends of Queen Theater

Friends of the Queen Theater is a community-based campaign to build support for our vision of a venue for live theater, films, concerts and events. Join us in returning this grand theater to her rightful place in Kaimuki.

In 2008 we formed the Friends of Queen Theater and began a community-based campaign to build support for our vision of a venue for live theater, films, concerts and events. The group has provided a magnet for many who have ideas for her and have long yearned to see the building restored. Since our beginning, the organization formed their non-profit status and is applying for the Queen Theater's addition to the State Historic Register.
