***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***

Road work scheduled to get underway next week for select streets in Pālolo

Pālolo -- Work is scheduled to begin on select roads in Pālolo on Tuesday, January 16, and will include 10th Avenue, Helo Place, Kuahea Street, Kuahea Place and Wai‘oma‘o Road. The allowable work hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays (with possible Saturday work). The road work will cover approximately 2,000 feet of roadway and is estimated to be finished within 211 calendar days.

Residents and business owners are advised to observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs and special duty police officers. Drivers should anticipate delays due to detours, lane and road closures, and allow extra travel time while driving through the work areas. Local residential traffic, deliveries and trash collection will be allowed during construction. Any illegally parked vehicles may be towed at the owner's expense.

The project includes, but is not limited to: removing and replacing existing concrete pavement, extending excavation about 4.5 feet below the pavement surface and backfilling with a geogrid reinforced soil mat and light-weight geofoam structural material; cold planing; resurfacing and reconstruction of asphalt concrete pavement; adjustment of utility manhole and handhole frames and covers; installation of pavement markings; driveway and sidewalk reconstruction; reconstruction of existing concrete curb and/or gutters; relocating existing water lines and fire hydrants; installing new drain lines; drain manhole and drain outlet improvements; and installing six-inch diameter underdrains.

Also included in the project is the trimming of tree canopies and the pruning of roots as required by a qualified/certified arborist.

Contractor Road and Highway Builders LLC was awarded the $2.3 million contract. For questions regarding the project's traffic management, contact the Department of Design and Construction at (808) 768-8832.
