Their concert on the 28th will feature works of the Romantic era with pieces by Brahms and Mendelssohn, and others by Debussy and Mozart.

About the artists

Lucia Kye (clarinet) was born in Seoul, Korea and graduated from the College of Music of Seoul National University, studied at the School of Music Detmold, Germany with Professor Hans Klaus and the School of Music Munich with Professor Ulf Rodenhaeuser.

She won first prize at the Korean Musician's Association Competition; the Interpretation Prize at the Modern Music Festival, North-West Germany; and was awarded Musician of the Year 1999 by Villa Musica Foundation in Germany. She was named a finalist in the 27th International Jeunesse Musical Competition (Special Prize) and also the 10th Carl Maria von Weber competition in Munich, Germany.

Since 1996, she has been a member of Villa Musica Chamber Music Group based in Mainz, Germany and has been giving concerts throughout Europe and Asia. She has also appeared as a soloist at numerous festivals in Europe and Asia, and in concert with major orchestras in Korea, such as the Korean Symphony and KBS Philharmonic. Discography: the Korean Broadcasting Media (KBS Media) produced a duo album Clarinet and Piano (2002), Appassionato e Amabile (EMI 2007), and NY Counterpoint (FleurdeSon NY/2012) released to critical acclaim.

Kye has been Post-Professor of Suwon University and taught at the College of Music at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.

Jonathan Korth (piano) is a native of Iowa and enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborator, and teacher, having performed recitals across North America, Europe, and East Asia to critical acclaim. Since making his 2002 Carnegie Hall debut at the Weill Recital Hall and joining the faculty of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2008, Korth has become an advocate for classical music, performing and lecturing around the world.

Korth is a prolific concertizer, having performed at many of the nation's top venues, concert series, and universities. In recent years, he presented solo and chamber music concerts at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, Lincoln Center, Washington DC's Phillips Collection, the Jefferson Library at Monticello, and the Des Moines Civic and Arts Centers. He is as much in demand in Europe and Asia as in the United States, having performed multiple recital tours in France, Belgium, the UK, China, and Taiwan.

Korth's deep appreciation and love for chamber music has led to collaborations with musicians such as Martin Beaver (Tokyo String Quartet), cellists Alan Stepansky and David Requiro, soprano Hyunah Yu, the Momenta String Quartet, and members of many of America's leading orchestras, as well as prestigious concert series, including those in the islands.

Dr. Korth is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University (BM) where he studied with Ann Schein and Boris Slutsky and Stony Brook University (MM and DMA), where he was a student of Gilbert Kalish.
