·         Bus Routes – It was noted that City Council will be looking to restore bus route services.
·         Curbside Recycling – Curbside recycling will be expanded to 20,000 homes on Oahu. Kaimuki Intermediate and Kuhio Elementary will still have the white bins for public use.
·         Petrie Park – The playground at this park was recently replaced with new equipment.
·         Press Conference – Councilmember Chang noted that he and Councilmember Kobayashi will hold a press conference at Waialae and 9th Avenues to inform the community about the Road Rehabilitation for the area.

Questions, comments, and concerns followed:

1.       Blight Property – It was noted that residents suing neighbors due to blight property will have to go to court. It would seem that home appraisers would be called as expert witnesses.
2.       Appreciation – Thanks were expressed to Councilmember Chang for all the he does for the community.

Governor Neil Abercrombie’s Representative – Fred Pablo reported the following:

·       Adult Education Program – It was noted that the Adult Education Program at Kaimuki High School is likely to continue depending on enrollment. August 20-31, 2012 enrollment will be done at the McKinley High School Campus.
·       State Recycling Program – It was noted that in 2005 only 25 percent of the State was recycling. With the recycling program, in 2012 it has increased to 70 percent.
·       Economy – This is the second consecutive year that the State has ended the fiscal year in the black. The economy is now on track toward economic recovery, sustainability, and may restore basic services cut from the State Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Land and Natural Resources. Also able to continue progress made in the 2012 legislative session is to restore the State’s watersheds, invest in early childhood education, update the State’s technology system, create jobs, and address the need for affordable housing.

Senator Les Ihara – Senator Ihara noted that the legislature was not in session, two senators were not returning and he would be available for questions.

Questions, comments, and concerns followed:

1.       Requested Follow Up – Board Member McGuire requested follow up for the following items:
1.1.     Ammunition Stocking – Why have various Federal Government Agencies needed to stock up on ammunition? McGuire read that the Social Security Administration stocked up on 174,000 hollow point rounds and the Department of Homeland Security stocked up on 715 million rounds of ammunition.
1.2.     Ethanol Subsidies – In 2012 the U.S. purchased 13.2 billion gallons of ethanol.
1.3.     Livestock Costs – It was noted that livestock is being slaughtered sooner than it would be normally which in turn, the left over corn after the ethanol has already gone in to the livestock feed, it goes to human consumption (the corn does). It was requested that a message be sent to Washington D.C., requesting they do away with a mandate that drives costs up and makes food scarce.

Senator Ihara will follow up with the following concerns that were brought up.

Representative Calvin Say – Representative Say distributed a report and highlighted the following:

·         State Economic Outlook – Although the State is in better shape now regarding the economy, it will also depend on the degree to where State services were discontinued or cut.

Questions, comments, and concerns followed:

·         Requested Follow Up – Board Member McGuire requested the same follow up be done that was asked of Senator Ihara.

Representative Barbara Marumoto – A representative was not available; a report was distributed.
