PROGRAMS @ KAIMUKI PUBLIC LIBRARY

MOTHER'S DAY CARD WORKSHOP

On Friday, May 9 the library will partner with the Honolulu Museum of Art, Spalding House to offer a cyanotype mother's day card-making event. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that uses sunshine and produces a cyan-blue print. Sign up at the reference desk or come to the library's covered parking area at 2:30. Join us to learn about this art form and make a card for Mother's Day.

MAY IS NATIONAL BIKE MONTH

Celebrate National Bike Month at the library with a free movie on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m. The library will be showing "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (rated PG) in the covered parking area. There will be free snacks bought with funds raised by the Friends of Kaimuki Public Library See you at the movie!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM IS COMING SOON

FOR ALL AGES!

Summer Reading Program at Kaimuki Public Library starts May 27, 2014 with registration week. This year's themes are: Adult--"Literary Elements;" Young Adult (Teens)-- "Spark A Reaction;" and Children's--"Fizz, Boom, Read!"

Read at least one book per week, then come to the library and check in at the Summer Reading Program desks to receive a weekly prize. You can read a book yourself or read a book to someone. Have keiki too young to read? Receive an age-appropriate prize for your pre-reader when you read at least one book per week to them! Plus enjoy special programs and events; stay tuned for more information.

This free eight week program is sponsored by the Hawai‘i State Public Library System with additional support from the community, the Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi and The Friends of Kaimuki Public Library.

BONUS FOR STUDENTS age 14 and up: Volunteer at the library this summer! The library is looking for volunteers to help at the Summer Reading Program tables. Let's meet--come in person and talk to Children's Librarian Mysti or Young Adult Librarian Roberta.

MAY HOLIDAY

Kaimuki Public Library will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Sunday and Monday, May 25 and 26.

All public libraries will be closed Monday, May 26, 2014 in observance of Memorial Day, a federal holiday

DONATING BOOKS AND MEDIA

TO KAIMUKI PUBLIC LIBRARY

Donations to the Friends of Kaimuki Public Library are used for the support and promotion of the library. Drop off book and media donations during our open hours only, please; you may leave items at our back door/loading dock, just not on Saturdays or holidays. We will be able to provide you with a donation receipt.

The library accepts: all Hawaiian and Pacific materials regardless of condition; books, records, CDs and DVDs in good condition; magazines from the last 6 months. Note: all National Geographic and magazines of Hawaiian /Pacific subjects accepted).

We don't accept: VHS /cassette tapes; encyclopedias, textbooks, law or medical books more than 5 years old; materials that are damaged, moldy, dirty or bug infested.

SUNDAY STORY TIMES

Story time will be every Sunday through July (except holidays) at 10:30 a.m. Children 7 yrs old and under can listen to stories and make crafts. All children should be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Sunday 10 am -- 5 pm, EXCEPT closed November 10th*

Mon & Tue 10 am -- 8 pm, EXCEPT closed November 11th*

Wed & Thu 10 am -- 6 pm, EXCEPT closed November 28th*

Friday 1 pm -- 5 pm

Always Closed on Saturdays

The mission of the Hawaii State Public Library System is to provide Hawaii's residents, in all walks of life, and at each stage of their lives, with access to education, information, programs and services, and to teach and nurture the love of reading and the habit of life-long learning.

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.

Loan Renewals:
On person with library material or call 733-8422, then press "0" -- have your library material with you when calling. For online renewals, use www.librarieshawaii.org and "my account" and your library card no.

Book Drops -- for after business hours -- one by the front door or drive-up book drop in the upper parking lot
