PROGRAMS @ KAIMUKI PUBLIC LIBRARY

CHILDREN'S PROGRAM: THE TINY TREE*

On Wednesday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m., members of the Honolulu Theatre for Youth will perform the interactive play The Tiny Tree." Through an astronaut father and son on an imaginary planet, the play explores the themes of responsibility, nurturing others, and letting go. Ages 3 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

SUNDAY FAMILY STORY TIME*

Family story times featuring stories, rhymes, and crafts are being held on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

STAFF UPDATE

Kaimuki Public Library is pleased to welcome our new Children's Librarian, Katherine Bengston, who will start on March 1. She comes to us from Princeville Public Library on Kaua'i. "Kat" will continue the library's schedule of storytimes, programs and class visits.

Please call the library 2 weeks prior to any library program to request a sign-language interpreter or other special accommodation if needed.

BOOK CLUB

Interested readers are invited to join the Kaimuki Public Library Book Club along with volunteers from the Friends of the Library of Hawaii and Friends of Kaimuki Public Library (FKPL). Monthly discussion meetings are held on the second Friday (except March 18, which is the third Friday in March) morning of each month, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., in the FKPL book store located at the east end of the library's basement. Participants are encouraged to borrow and read the books in advance.

Scheduled book discussions are:

March 18: The alchemyst (Michael Scott) -- HSPLS has e-book, print, and audiobook (CD and downloadable).

April 10: Orphan train (Christina Baker Kline) - HSPLS has e-book, print, and audiobook (CD).

May 13: The Boston girl (Diamant, Anita) - HSPLS has e-book, print, and audiobook (CD and downloadable).

DISPLAY: STAR WARS POP ART:

100 STORM TROOPERS & 100 BB-8

AND OTHER DRAWINGS

Art students at Niu Valley Middle School will display their paintings of 100 Storm Troopers and 100 BB-8 (droids) and assorted abstract drawings in the lobby from Sunday, February 28, through Friday, April 1. Jeff Tam, their art teacher at the school, set up the exhibit.

The next membership meeting will be on Tuesday, April 19, at 12 noon, in the FKPL bookstore on the parking lot level of the library.

BOOK SALES

Weekly book store: FKPL's book store is open every Tuesday except holidays, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the east end of the library's basement: Paperbacks: $0.50 Hardcover: $1.00 Or priced as marked. Additionally CDs and DVDs are $1.00 each. Cash only, please.

Indoor book sale: the indoor book sale is located inside the library (along the wall that parallels Koko Head Avenue) during library open hours with the same great prices as the book store.

COMPUTER TUTORIALS

Tutorial appointments are filled through May. Consequently the library is presently not accepting appointments for Friday-morning computer tutorials. Please inquire in early April for June availability. Tutorials are held on Friday-mornings (10:00 or 11:00 a.m.; 1 hour max) and cover essential computer use, e-mail, surfing the Web, Microsoft Office basics, or any other introductory computer-use topic of your choice. A valid HSPLS card is necessary in order to participate.

2015 PERSONAL INCOME TAX MATERIALS

The following items are now available inside the library entrance, across from Circulation:

State of Hawaii: N-11, N-13, and N-15 instruction booklet and form packets. Online, go to http://tax.hawaii.gov for electronic copies of forms and instructions.

Federal: Forms 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ and instruction booklets. A binder containing reproducible copies of these items and other forms is available at the reference desk for in-library use. Online, go to http://www.irs.gov for electronic copies of forms and instructions.

HSPLS employees do not provide tax advice.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

In observance of Good Friday and Prince Jonah Kuhio Day, all public libraries will be closed on Friday, March 25, Saturday, March 26, and Sunday, March 27.

The bookdrops in the Kaimuki Public Library upper parking lot will be locked starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, and reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 28. During that time, the book return by the front door will remain available for the return of books only. Library materials will not be due on the closure dates, so please wait until the library re-opens to return library materials. Thank you for your cooperation.

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.
