ABOUT
AKAMAI (AH kuh my) from Hawaiian (adj): smart, ingenious, skillful

Akamai Foods specializes in healthy convenient foods that are nutritionally smart. We start with good, whole food ingredients. Then we use the least amount of oil and sugar necessary to produce a great product. After all, if it doesn't taste good, it doesn't matter how healthy it is.

We also use local Hawaiian ingredients whenever possible (i.e. bananas, ginger and honey). We do not use artificial ingredients (including preservatives and sweeteners, or highly processed ingredients (including corn syrup). Our products are good... naturally.

We started selling our signature low fat oatcakes 6 years ago. Since then we have expanded our product line to include low fat and low sugar biscotti, tropical lavosh with macadamia nut oil and wheat-free cakes. All made with the best natural ingredients we can find.

We began as a healthy themed restaurant, but we started selling our Hawaiian style oatcakes at the Saturday Farmer's Market on the campus of Kapiolani Community College (on Diamond Head Road) in September of 2003. Demand for our oatcakes has been growing ever since. Die-hard visitors who sampled our oatcakes on their way to hiking Diamond Head have been calling and asking us to mail our products to them for years. You can now order our products on-line, as opposed to mailing a check to us (although that still works too).

If your introduction to our oatcakes is via the internet, we encourage you to visit us at the Saturday Market (from 7:30-11am) if you are in town. The market is a festive cornucopia of locally grown and produced products bound together with a spirit of ohana (family) amid the backdrop of beautiful Leahi (Diamond Head). Sample local goods, sit in the shade while listening to the musicians before tackling the summit hike.
