Pruning (Back to the top)
Pruning is both an art and a science. A skilled arborist uses his or her understanding of how trees grow and respond combined with years of practical experience to enhance the value and benefit trees bring to the landscape.

There are many considerations an arborist must make when determining what type of pruning is best for the tree and the client. An old tree must be approached and cared for differently than a young vigorous tree. Pruning can increase the safety of trees if done properly and reduce the risk of large branch or trunk failures. If done incorrectly, pruning can increase the risk trees pose to people and property.

At Oahu Tree Preservation, LLC (OTP) the same person who evaluates the trees and determines what type of work needs to be done, is the same person who actually performs the work. This ensures that the tree is pruned to exacting standards. OTP is a small, dedicated company that is dedicated to high quality tree care in Hawaii.

Tree Planting (Back to the top)
Arborists are often not involved in the planting phase. Many years later it is the arborist who is faced with managing issues that could have been addressed early on in the life of the tree, at significantly lower costs to the client and the tree. OTP has the training and education to provide crucial assistance with all planting needs.

OTP considers the mature size and environmental needs of different tree species when making planting recommendations. This ensures that the right tree is planted in the right place, saving thousands of dollars in maintenance and/or removal fees years down the road.

Tree Consulting (Back to the top)
OTP provides tree consulting for many different tree issues. From preservation during construction or renovation, to health assessments and pruning recommendations. We provide services in the following areas:
  • Diagnosis of Tree and Landscape Problems
  • Tree and landscape appraisal
  • Insect and disease diagnosis
  • Tree protection and preservation plans during construction
  • Preparation of contract specifications
  • Tree risk assessment (how dangerous is my tree?)

Soil Assessments (Back to the top)
This is a unique service in Hawaii. Soil is a dynamic, responding ecosystem and if managed correctly can provide huge benefits to plants, the environment and people. If managed incorrectly and taken for granted, soils can dramatically alter the landscape and the environment in general.

OTP can assess the condition of the soil, including fertility and soil type. We can also determine the relative bulk density (compaction) of the soil to determine whether mitigation is warranted to provide increased health to trees and plants. OTP also makes recommendations for improving the structure and health of the soil to benefit the landscape and garden. This may include a fertilization program or techniques to improve the organic matter content in the soil.
