We will offer Open Studio hours from 5-8pm for a monthly celebration of our Kaimuki community.

Exciting October Workshops!

Kids love Halloween so October is always a great month at Art Explorium! In addition to our regular workshops we have some exciting new classes to share with you.

  • Halloween Masks: Need a fun mask for your costume? Join us for this creative workshop to learn about mask making and create your own custom mask for Halloween Night! $15, ages 5 & up, Sunday, October 19, 1:00-2:30pm.
  • Little Artists: We are now offering our Little Artists workshops EVERY Tuesday morning for our youngest friends (ages 2-5)! Instructor Harmony from HarmsaStar comes up with delightful themes each week and incorporates music, movement, dance and visual art to keep your little one engaged. Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30am, $15 (please note: this week's class is cancelled due to illness).
  • Special Family Workshop: Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Kaka`ako: November 2nd is celebrated as "Dia de Los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead" in Meso-American culture. Instead of viewing the deceased as ghosts who haunt us, they are viewed as part of the community, awakened on this day to celebrate with loved ones. We will create family altars with paints, handmade paper flowers, and all kinds of colorful materials, and do a procession to honor our ancestors. Art Explorium is collaborating with artist Tara Compehos and the Honolulu Biennial Foundation's Chain of Fire Exhibit for this, our first family workshop. Please note that this workshop will be held in the Chain of Fire Exhibition space in Kaka'ako.

Let's Make Some Art After School!

Looking for some fun and educational afternoon art activities for your child? We offer After School Art workshops on Thursday afternoons for keiki ages 7 & up. In October we are focusing on the Art of Japan and it's not too late to sign up for Gyotaku Fish Prints (10/16) and Noh Theater/Kabuki Masks (10/23 & 10/30)! We will post information about our November workshop series on our web site soon.

We are also offering a special Fashion Illustration Series of classes on Monday afternoons in November in honor of Hawaii Fashion Month. Designer Ryan Hanaoka will teach your young fashionista how to draw all kinds of outfits and cute clothing items. These classes are open to children ages 6-12.

Description
Nurturing tomorrow's creative thinkers

Art Explorium provides a fun, safe place where children of all ages have the opportunity and the permission to create freely. We firmly believe that art experiences are an important part of every person's growth and development. So... WE provide the space and materials, YOU provide the ideas and make them happen!

Art Explorium strives to be an eco-friendly organization. Many of the art materials in our studio are items that would normally be thrown in the landfill (old pieces of fabric, used bottle caps, small boxes, magazines, ribbon, etc.). We collect these used materials from our friends and local businesses, and Art Explorium visitors give these items a new life as art.

We offer art classes, birthday parties, and field trips to our studio. We also offer Open Studio time - come on in with your family and dabble in one or all of our art stations which offer activities like painting, sculpting, drawing, making mosaics and more. See you there!

General Information
Come on by! During Open Studio time you are free to drop in, use our space and materials and explore the process of creating.
