Vintage Americana Music from Lowbiscus Closes Atherton 2018-19 Winter Season, March 2

All-acoustic Americana band Lowbiscus makes their Atherton Studio debut on March 2. These three Kailua-based string musicians explore two centuries of American folk music, lending their old-time twist to modern songs. Known for their haunting harmonies and wild instrumentals, they achieve their uniquely intimate sound in part by sharing a single vintage-style microphone. Lowbiscus members guitarist Gabriel Smith, fiddler Megan Heronemus, and mandolinist Cait Ellis are joined for this final concert of the Atherton Winter season by bassist Alex Morrison.

Reservations may be made online at www.hprtickets.org or by calling the station (955-8821) during regular business hours. Tickets are $25 general, $20 for HPR members, and $15 for students with ID; online service fees apply. The Atherton Studio is located at Hawaiʻi Public Radio, 738 Kāheka Street. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.

About the artists

Mandolinist Cait Ellis has a unique voice and a fondness for costumes. Her sweet, soulful voice has been compared to a young Dolly Parton's. Audiences enjoy her historical and hysterical commentary on songs.

Megan Heronemus has always called herself a "fiddler" rather than a "violinist." Her roots are in the traditional fiddle music of the East Coast of Canada, and her first stage performances were with the Prince Edward Island Fiddlers Association -- at age five.

Guitarist Gabriel Smith grew up with a pencil and a paintbrush in his hands. He has been writing and performing music since his teens.

Bassist Alex Morrison has an eclectic taste in music and regularly performs with jazz, soul, and Americana groups around the island.

About HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio

The Atherton Studio seats 75 people and is home to a magnificent Bösendorfer concert grand piano. The Studio is available for rent for musical performances, community group meetings, and lectures. It is located in the HPR office and studio complex at 738 Kaheka Street, across from the Honolulu Don Quijote. Metered street parking is available, as are paid lots at the First Hawaiian Bank (Kapi‘olani branch) and in the Pan Am building.
