Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery is a FREE, hands-on STEM event for students in grades PK–12, featuring workshops, activities, and demonstrations in space exploration, Polynesian voyaging, robotics, rocketry, and more. Named in honor of a local islander astronaut Charles Lacy Veach, who flew two Space Shuttle missions, this event celebrates his legacy while inspiring the next generation to explore, innovate, and dream big.
Media are invited to film/photograph the 24th Annual Astronaut Lacy Veach Day of Discovery event on Sunday, Oct. 19, at the U.H. Institute for Astronomy in Mānoa. The free STEM event, which brings together students, families and educators, will feature interactive booths and workshops highlighting space exploration, Earth science, biology, oceanography, rocketry, robotics coding and hands-on educational activities designed for students in grades PK-12. A highlight this year will be special guest appearance by the Pacific Outpost 501st Legion, the nonprofit Hawaiʻi chapter of the Lucasfilm’s preferred Star Wars Imperial costuming group.
