Dive in to an “Ocean of Possibilities”
Join the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge Starting June 5th
HONOLULU – Summer is “oh-fish-ally” here and readers “anglin’” for a great time are invited to join the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge! This year’s program runs from June 5th to July 30th and includes virtual and in-person activities, author talks, and opportunities to earn reading rewards, and more! Registration details can be found on our webpage librarieshawaii.org/SummerReading.
In partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), children can download fun activities each week on ocean topics like Exploring Coral Reefs and Tide Pools.
Children, teens and adults are “shore” to enjoy ocean-related virtual programs; visit our Summer Reading webpage for more details on great programs like Sea Turtles of Hawaiʻi and Beyond.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge goal is to read 1,000 minutes. There are fun rewards for getting to the 300-, 600- and 1000-minute reading mark. For every 100 minutes of reading logged, readers are rewarded with a virtual badge and up to a maximum of 10 automatic entries in the statewide Grand Prize drawing. The more you read, the better your chances are to win our grand prize: four roundtrip tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines® flies, courtesy of Alaska Airlines®!
“Get ready to have a “sand-sensational” time reading and visiting your library this summer! You can even participate if you are on vacation and travelling! You can download great ebooks and eaudiobooks to read and keep track of all your minutes online. You can even learn something new about our oceans via our virtual programs! There are an Ocean of Possibilities to be a part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich.
To register, go to librarieshawaii.org/SummerReading. Visit our webpage often for new information on upcoming events.
Hawaiʻi’s Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi, Alaska Airlines, McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaiʻi, Pizza Hut Hawaiʻi, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the 2022 Summer Reading Sponsors.
