      E Heluhelu Kākou: Let’s Read!
      Readers of all ages are invited to join us from June 1 – July 31, 2026!  This year’s theme, “E Heluhelu Kākou – ʻUmeke Kāʻeo”, is a calabash full to the brim and a poetic way to describe someone full of knowledge. Let our libraries fill your summer with spam-tastic programs, niu-knowledge and lots of literary adventures.

      How do I complete the challenge?
      Read 800 minutes or 8 books.
      What can I read?
      Physical books, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, talking books, and Braille all count.
      How do I earn rewards and entries for grand prize?
      Rewards at 400 & 800 minutes or 4 books & 8 books while supplies last.
      Grand prize entries are given for every 100 minutes or book read.
      How can I log my reading?
      Log minutes or books on Beanstack or paper log and talk with your favorite library staff.

      Is there a way to earn bonus entries to the Grand Prize of Round-Trip tickets with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines?
      Yes! You can earn extra entries by:
      - Visiting the library once a week to learn the word of the week. One word = 1 extra entry.
      - Reading beyond 800 minutes or 8 books. 200 minutes or 2 books = 1 extra entry.

      Each participant can only choose one challenge

      All Hawaiʻi Public Libraries will have rewards for reaching specific reading goals. Some libraries may have additional rewards, ask your library what they’re doing for summer reading.       About the Poster Artist: Kelsie Dayna
      Kelsie Dayna is a Honolulu-based illustrator and artist, born and raised on the island of O‘ahu. Her work uses bold colors, dynamic compositions, and a playful sensibility that is rooted in storytelling and community.
      After losing her corporate office job during the pandemic, Kelsie turned her love of art into a career. She hopes her journey will inspire others to follow their passions in life, no matter their age or experience.

The mission of the Hawaii State Public Library System is to provide Hawaii's residents, in all walks of life, and at each stage of their lives, with access to education, information, programs and services, and to teach and nurture the love of reading and the habit of life-long learning.

Library Cards
You may apply for a library card at any Hawaii public library. The initial card is FREE for Hawaii residents. Cards are also free for military personnel and their dependents with a copy of orders. The resident card replacement fee is $5.00. Resident library cards must be renewed every five years. There is no charge for the renewal.

Loan Renewals:
In person with library material or call 733-8422, then press "0" -- have your library material with you when calling. For online renewals, use www.librarieshawaii.org and "my account" and your library card no.
