Grow “Seeds of Knowledge” at Your Library
Join the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge Starting June 1

HONOLULU – Readers of all ages are invited to grow seeds of knowledge as part of the Hawaii State Public Library System’s annual Summer Reading Challenge, which begins June 1.

Enjoy a free Summer Reading Kick-Off event on Saturday, June 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hawaii State Library (main branch on King Street);
view the flyer for event details.

Participants in the Summer Reaching Challenge can reap rewards including locally-published books for kids, school supplies for teens, plant kits for adults, and entries for the Grand Prize drawing provided by Alaska Airlines®!

Here’s how it works:
·         Register now online at librarieshawaii.org/summerreading or by visiting your local library.
·         Start reading on June 1.
·         Read at least one hour per week.
·         Log your reading minutes using the Beanstack app or
librarieshawaii.beanstack.org
·         Keep it up until the end of July.

Reading Rewards:
·         Every one hour of reading logged will earn a virtual badge and an automatic entry for the statewide Grand Prize: four roundtrip tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines® flies!
·         Readers who reach four-hour and eight-hour milestones will earn free reading rewards while supplies last.
·         There’s more fun for kids who visit their library weekly – they can receive and complete a fun activity sheet to earn a cool sticker of their choice.

“E heluhelu kākou! Let’s read! Reading over the summer has great benefits--it strengthens reading skills in kids, and teens and adults can learn new things and reduce stress. Reading also supports memory and cognitive engagement, which contributes positively to our brain health. Escape the summer heat and visit our branches to browse and borrow materials or use our free Wi-Fi and public computers,” urged State Librarian Stacey Aldrich.

More details can be found at
librarieshawaii.org/summerreading. Visit our webpage often for new information on upcoming events. Our digital doors are always open at librarieshawaii.org. With just a library card, you can download audio and e-books, stream movies, learn a language, read The New York Times, and more!
