Water heating schedule for city park pools shifting by one month

Four-month pool heating schedule will now begin in December and last through March

Honolulu -- Following input from pool users and Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) staff, the schedule for heated water service at pool facilities located at city parks will be shifting by one month.

Beginning this year, the four-month heating schedule will begin in December and last through March. Previously the heating schedule was from November through February.

Please note that the capability for pools to be heated is an amenity that is subject to maintenance and may require suspension if necessary. In some cases, pools may remain open even if the water heaters are not in operation.

The shift in water heating schedule was determined after DPR staff and pool users found that heating the pool later in the year would provide more of a benefit as temperatures have been remaining warm later in the year.

Historical data from the National Weather Service for Honolulu indicates that the average temperatures are warmer during the month of November (78.8 degrees Fahrenheit) as opposed to March (75 degrees Fahrenheit).
