Free entry to Foster Botanical Garden to experience Honolulu Biennial art
Two opportunities for free entry on Sunday, April 14 and Sunday, May 5

HONOLULU - Foster Botanical Garden is offering two opportunities for the public to enjoy the garden and 2019 Honolulu Biennial artwork installed there for free!

Admission into the garden will be waved on Sunday, April 14 and Sunday, May 5 (the last day of the 2019 biennial) for all to enjoy the six art installations on display as part of the 2019 Honolulu Biennial: To Make Wrong/Right/Now.

Local and international contemporary artists Bernice Akamine, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Misaki Kawai, Leland Miyano, Bruna Stude, and Amy Yao are exhibited throughout the garden creating fresh interpretations of this beautiful, historic site.

Of special note is artist Leland Miyano’s canoe installation Huaka`i/A Wake, 2019, winner of the event’s grand Golden Hibiscus Award, located on the Upper Terrace.  The 50-foot Polynesian voyaging canoe is similar in size to the beloved Hōkūle`a wa‘a, and is constructed mostly from invasive strawberry guava harvested from Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden.

Foster Botanical Garden is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Admission to the garden is normally $5 for adults, $3 for local residents, and $1 for keiki ages six to 12. For general information, call (808) 768-7135 or visit
