Workshops for Keiki Ages 5 & Up

We have some awesome art workshops scheduled in April, mainly on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Pre-registration is highly recommended because classes often fill. Upcoming classes include lots of Spring & Easter themed projects! For information and to register online visit our Workshops with Various Artists Page. Cost ranges from $10-$25 per workshop. Read below to find out about some of our featured workshops:

Clay Bugs & Crazy Pots!

We are going to have a great time inventing and sculpting our own bugs in this whimsical workshop taught by long-time art instructor Carole Iacovelli. Lucky you, we just posted this class so there are still spaces available! Ages 5 & up, $20. Saturday, April 6, 2;30-4:00pm.

Egg-cellent Fun!

Who knew you could make so many fun things with eggs? Egg people, pinata eggs, patterns on eggs, & more! We will be using dyes, paint, and of course, our imaginations. Ages 5 & up, $15. Saturday, April 20, 2:30-4:00pm.

Repurposed Toys as Art!: Workshop Inspired by Artist Maika`i Tubbs

Looking for something fun to do on Easter Sunday afternoon? Join us as we partner with Honolulu Biennial to offer a unique class where we create art out of an old toy! Our studio will be closed today so this workshop is offered at The Hub at Ward Village (old Famous Footwear Space). Sunday, April 21, 1:30-3:00pm, age 5 & up, only $10. While you're there be sure to check out some of the amazing things the Biennial has to offer... it will only be here through May 5.

Ease into summer with us

Before you know it, the end of school will be here and we'll all need time to decompress. To ease us into a fun, colorful, and creative summer break, Art Explorium will have a full month of amazing summer camp programs in June, followed by a special 3 day printmaking intensive in July.

June summer camps are offered to keiki ages 6 - 11 from 9am to 1pm. Each weeklong program features a different theme and focus. Cost is $250 per week, $230 for each additional sibling. In addition to making art in the classroom, we may also take advantage of our great Kaimuki neighborhood with mini field trips. Teacher to student ratio is very low, so spaces are limited. You can find more information and register here.

June 3 - 7: Instructor Ualani Davis

"Around the World in 5 Days"

Stuck at home this summer? Not this week at Art Explorium! During the first week of June, students will get to explore the world from the comfort of our own studio! Through art projects and a bit of imagination, students will learn about different places, cultures, and people from around the world. Art projects will encourage students to experiment with cyanotypes like the early inventors of photography in Europe, explore foreign landscapes with ink painting, make a mark with easy ʻohe kapala stamps, and carve out a name for themselves like the ancient pharaohs. No passport? No worries, weʻll make those in class too!

Instructor Ualani Davis is an art teacher at Kamehameha Schools, Kapālama and has taught photography-related workshops with Art Explorium over the years.

June 10-14: Instructor Ashley Katamoto

"Monster Mash"

Who doesn't want to spend a week creating all sorts of creatures? In this class students will explore drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, printmaking, and sculpture. (P.S. we may even become mad scientists and create our own monster slime!) We will also encourage students to take found and recycled objects and give them new life as monsters! Projects will include Roll-A-Monster Paintings, Monster Lair Dioramas, Monster Tower Sculptures, Monster Masks, and more! But don't fear... here at Art Explorium we believe monsters can be cute too!

Instructor Ashley Katamoto is a frequent workshop instructor at Art Explorium, taught Art Camp at Art Explorium last summer, and teaches visual arts at University Laboratory School.

June 17-21: Instructor Lily Hebert

"Wild About Art"

Join us as we explore the wonders of nature with a focus on wild animals, insects, and plants. We will be inspired by master artists who created works with nature as their inspiration. Get ready to go wild, making animal themed collages, nature paintings and learning new art methods & techniques!

Instructor Lily Hebert teaches workshops at Art Explorium, taught Art Camp last summer at Art Explorium, and is a Mixed Media Art teacher at University Laboratory School.

June 24-28: Instructor Lily Hebert

"Creating Art About Our Environment"

We will create art inspired by the amazing land, sea, and creatures around us. With sustainability in mind, we will create art with reusable materials and make our own unique environment boxes. We will also create beautiful paintings with our island home as our inspiration.

Instructor Lily Hebert teaches workshops at Art Explorium, taught Art Camp last summer at Art Explorium, and is a Mixed Media Art teacher at University Laboratory School.

Description
Nurturing tomorrow's creative thinkers

Art Explorium provides a fun, safe place where children of all ages have the opportunity and the permission to create freely. We firmly believe that art experiences are an important part of every person's growth and development. So... WE provide the space and materials, YOU provide the ideas and make them happen!

Art Explorium strives to be an eco-friendly organization. Many of the art materials in our studio are items that would normally be thrown in the landfill (old pieces of fabric, used bottle caps, small boxes, magazines, ribbon, etc.). We collect these used materials from our friends and local businesses, and Art Explorium visitors give these items a new life as art.

We offer art classes, birthday parties, and field trips to our studio. We also offer Open Studio time - come on in with your family and dabble in one or all of our art stations which offer activities like painting, sculpting, drawing, making mosaics and more. See you there!

General Information
Come on by! During Open Studio time you are free to drop in, use our space and materials and explore the process of creating.

We also offer art classes, birthday parties and field trips to our studio!
