• Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association/First Tee To Re-Open Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range On March 4, 2022

Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range

 
O‘AHU – The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) Golf Division is pleased to announce the Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range and Pro Shop will hold a soft-opening on March 4, 2022. Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA)/First Tee will be operating the Driving Range and Pro Shop at Ala Wai Golf Course under a revocable permit.

The HSJGA, a fixture in Hawai‘i golf and developer of numerous national junior golf champions over two decades, and First Tee Hawai‘i, a youth development organization, merged in 2020 to create an entity dedicated to providing opportunities for Hawai‘i’s youth. Jointly, they will staff, manage and operate the driving range and pro shop services.

“We are very fortunate to have HSJGA/First Tee quickly mobilize operations to re-open the driving range and pro shop and continue services to our golfers while we work on a solicitation for a long-term driving range contract at the Ala Wai, our most popular municipal golf course,” said Jerry Pupillo, DES director. “HSJGA/First Tee, a premier junior golf organization in Hawai‘i, is a great fit moving forward as we reenergize our courses and develop the next generation of golfers.”

“Our organization is incredibly honored and privileged to have been selected as the City’s vendor for this one of a kind opportunity,” said Mary Bea Porter- King, President of the HSJGA/ First Tee. “We take very seriously this commitment, and believe this is a great stepping stone toward fulfilling the long term vision of making the Ala Wai Golf Course the true home of Hawai‘i golf.”

The Golf Division appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding during the three-month closure. Repairs and improvements are currently being made at the driving range facility to prepare for the re-opening of services to the public.
