Celebrating Black History Month:
Groundbreaking Artists on Air
on HPR-2

On the final Saturday of Black History Month, celebrate the artistry of some of the exceptional African-American singers who broke ground at the Metropolitan Opera. This special broadcast showcases stars who have made invaluable contributions to the Met’s legacy, including contralto Marian Anderson, who crossed the Met’s color barrier when she took center stage in the principal role of Ulrica in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera in 1955.
Don’t miss this special celebration of Black History Month, Saturday, February 26 at 1 p.m. on HPR-2, your home for classical music.

Until then, explore the digital exhibition chronicling the history of Black artists at the Met.

MET Opera Radio airs Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. on HPR-2. See the HPR-2 Schedule | Station Locator
