The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) exhibition marks the metamorphosis of an art student into a professional artist. For some, the journey is external and represents a deeper connection to community, the environment, or cultural heritage. For others, this initiation is more internal and results in an examination of the self, the unconscious, spirituality, or the vulnerabilities of being human. The vehicles are the materials and tools—clay, computers, paint, pencils, glass, wood, metal, fiber, and typeface. Whether the artist is alone in their studio or engaging in a collaborative project with the design studio, they leave the liminal state of being a student and break through boundaries, both metaphorical and physical, to reach “the other side” in this journey. The Other Side 2023 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition represents the highest level of achievement, both artistically and conceptually.
