New exhibit “Accession: recent additions to the Art in Public Places Collection”
Gain insight into the diversity of artworks being created in Hawaiʻi today in this exhibit, displaying a selection of 51 recent additions to the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts’ (SFCA) Art Public Places Collection by 38 artists. Artworks from the SFCA’s Art in Public Places Collection are displayed in state government sites across the islands, including schools, libraries, and state office buildings. The State Art Museum and Art in Public Places Collection are part of the SFCA Art in Public Places Program.

Artists: Amber Aguirre, Bernice Akamine, Margaret Barnaby, Derek Bencomo, Don Bernshouse, Jake Boggs, Tobias Brill, Allyn Bromley, Sean K. L. Browne, Gaye Chan, Melissa Chimera, Ghislaine D. Chock, Jonathan Yukio Clark, Debra Drexler, John Fackrell, Lynn Martin Graton, J. D. Griggs, Daven Hee and Joy Sanchez, Darius Homayounpour, Roen Hufford, May Izumi, John Krenik, Tom Lieber, Constance Liu, Licia McDonald, Emily McIlroy, Sarah Metz, Susan Mori, Richard Nelson, Carl Franklin Kaʻailaʻau Pao, Maya Lea Portner, Darold Ramelb, Don Shamblin, Esther Shimazu, Juvana Soliven, Dalani Tanahy, and Maile Yawata. “Accession” will be open through 2023.

Art Bento Applications Open for Oʻahu Public and Charter Schools Grades 2-6
School applications are now open for Oʻahu public and charter school classes, grades 2-6. Art Bento is an arts education program that uses the State Art Museum as a learning laboratory. There is no cost to the schools to participate in the program, and funding for bus transportation is included. Applications due March 17, 2023. he Hawai'i State Art Museum is dedicated to presenting the largest and finest collection of works by Hawai'i artists that celebrate the diverse artistic and cultural legacy of Hawai'i.

OUR MISSION
To promote, perpetuate, preserve and encourage culture and the arts, history and the humanities as central to the quality of life of the people of Hawai`i. HSFCA funding is provided by the State of Hawai`i and the National Endowment for the Arts. The HSFCA is administratively attached to the Department of Accounting and General Services.

HOURS:
The musuem is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed State and Federal Holdays. Always free admission. For pre-recorded information call 586-0900.
