HONOLULU – Mayor Rick Blangiardi and the City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services announced the official name and branding of Honolulu’s soon-to-open rail system: Skyline.

Skyline, whose opening segment spans nearly eleven miles between Kualakaʻi East Kapolei Station and Hālawa Aloha Stadium Station. Ongoing construction will expand this initial opening segment along Oʻahu’s South Shore to Kalihi and Honolulu’s Civic Center in Kakaʻako.

Skyline was one of many naming options studied to best represent Honolulu’s new modern rail line. Moving riders above ground-level congestion, Skyline trains operate on an elevated guideway, allowing riders to expansive views from the mountains to the ocean.

Skyline will prominently feature images of the Manu o Kū, or White Tern, a protected native seabird found on south shore of Oʻahu. The Manu o Kū can be seen flying throughout Honolulu’s skyline, playfully soaring above city buildings and beaches to hunt in our ocean and nest in our trees. Though they can be found throughout the Northwest Hawaiian Islands, Manu o Kū choose to flourish on Oʻahu and thrive in our urban environment.

Three limited-edition HOLO Card designs featuring Manu o Kū will be available before the start of service on June 30, 2023 at select retail partners.
