HONOLULU - The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) is providing the public a courtesy review of the Final Environmental Assessment (FEA) for the Ala Wai Pedestrian Bridge project.

The proposed Ala Wai Pedestrian Bridge, also known as "Ala Pono," would provide a new pedestrian crossing over the Ala Wai Canal, improving connectivity between Waikīkī and the McCully-Mōʻiliʻili communities while enhancing emergency access into and out of Waikīkī. The bridge would also improve access to nearby parks, schools, businesses, and recreational destinations. Although not required, this courtesy review period is one of several community engagement opportunities DTS committed to providing in 2024.

The project's Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) was previously published for public comment in 2021. The project is subject to Hawaiʻi Revised Statues (HRS) 6E-8. After extensive consultation with the community regarding historic preservation concluded in June 2025, DTS worked to finalize the EA, incorporating and responding to comments received on the DEA. As the next step in this process, DTS may issue a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) under the Hawaiʻi Environmental Policy Act (HEPA).

The Final Environmental Assessment is available on the
Ala Pono website for public review. The project team accepts feedback on the Ala Wai Pedestrian Bridge project at completestreets@honolulu.gov. Please use the subject line: “Ala Wai Pedestrian Bridge.”
