Here's some food for thought: 50% of our brain is devoted to processing what we SEE; we can even identify an image in the blink of an eye (13 milliseconds to be exact). Is it any wonder that (with the help of technology) we've become an increasingly visual society? 
 
Two upcoming Forest Bathing Hawaiʻi events will help you tap into the other 50% -- through your senses of HEARING and SMELL. Please read more below about September's World Forest Bathing & Soundwalk Day at Camp Pālehua and October's Scents of Nature at Kahaluʻu Gallery and Gardens. I hope you'll join us as we venture down these less dominant sensory pathways -- new perceptions and potential await!

World Forest Bathing & Soundwalk Day
Sunday, September 13 
For the first time, on the second weekend in September, the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy will be partnering with Quiet Parks International (QPI) on a global initiative: International Forest Bathing and Soundwalk Weekend. Across different countries and communities, guides will be inviting people to slow down, listen more deeply, and reconnect with the living world.

I'll be facilitating a 2-hour Soundwalk at Camp Pālehua on the Nānākuli Lookout Trail, recognized as one of QPI's Quiet Places. Come and hear for yourself how invaluable "natural silence" is for the health and well-being of all who share this planet. This launch of our newest experience is offered for a donation (in an amount of your choosing) to our host Camp to support its conservation efforts.

Night falls on the vast Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota. It's spring and the loons call and wail. Insects can be heard crawling on dry foliage throughout, creating a  delicate texture. The Boundary Waters was named a Wilderness Quiet Park in 2023. CLICK TO LISTEN (then close your eyes)

Scents of Nature
Saturday, October 10
Embark on an aromatic adventure in the unique tropical flora of Kahaluʻu Gallery and Gardens with Forest Bathing Hawaiʻi and aromatherapist/holistic health educator Alexandra Avery. From an array of essential oils, Alexandra will help you create your own personal perfume to take home. You’ll learn about the healing properties of some of the plants around us and how natural aromas affect us. Each participant will also receive a complimentary copy of Alexandra’s book Aromatherapy and You.
