For over thirty years people in Hawaii have gathered at the Silent Dance Center to practice Iyengar yoga. A delightful mix of kama'aina and malihini, locals and newcomers, comes together to enjoy:

• 52 weekly yoga classes
  
• two well equipped yoga studios
  
• special workshops with visiting senior teachers
  
• experienced and highly trained Iyengar yoga teachers

Certified Iyengar yoga instructors are educated, adept, and experienced in the methods of yoga set forth by B.K.S. Iyengar.



Join us and focus your energy and attention to enhance body, mind and spirit.

The mission of the Silent Dance Center is to promote and develop yoga, as inspired by the teachings of BKS Iyengar, by providing:

• introductory opportunities for people new to Iyengar Yoga
  
• guidance for continuing students to deepen their own practice, and
  
• training for current teachers and those interested in teaching.

Description of Classes

Level 1A

Basic yoga postures and concepts (including alignment, breathing, and relaxation). Recommended for new students.

Level 1B

Appropriate for continuing beginners or capable/athletic new students. Class includes introduction to shoulderstand and variations.

Level 2

Refinement of basic postures and concepts. Wider range of poses, including inversions, backbends, and forward bends.

Level 3

More intensive work and detailed instruction for experienced Iyengar yoga students who practice regularly. Students should have facility with standing poses, headstand and shoulderstand, and be prepared to work on more difficult poses.

Pranayama

The art of yogic breathing. 6 months Iyengar yoga experience recommended.

Registration

Classes are ongoing, no pre-registration is required and you may join at any time. In order to register, please arrive a few minutes before class.

Practical Matters

• Wear shorts or footless tights.
• Please do not eat right before class.
• Advise your teacher if you have significant health problems, concerns or are pregnant.
• In consideration of others, please do not wear heavy perfumes.
• Turn off cell phones and pagers.

Fees

Drop-In Fees - single class

• 1 hour and 1 hour, 15 min. classes - $10
• 1 & 1/2 hour classes - $14
• 2 hour classes - $18

Monthly rates are based on the calendar month. If you attend classes on the same day(s) every week, on some months you will have more classes for the same monthly fee. For instance, if you normally attend a class on Monday and there are five Mondays that month, the regular monthly fee includes all five classes.

For those who need more flexibility, if you pay the monthly fee for 1 class per week you may take any four appropriate length classes at anytime during that calendar month. Similarly, if you sign up for 2 classes per week you may take any eight classes during that calendar month. Monthly students may interchange teachers, times, and locations.
